Some would say that Cape Breton Island Ash trees are even tougher than the ones from the mainland, as our trees tend to be stockier, and gnarlier, having to keep standing through north Atlantic winds with roots grasping onto whatever they can in our shallow rocky soil. Ash has a variety of light and darker browns and a thick wood grain making each piece totally unique.
These pieces are made from cherry from the forests of Ontario and Quebec. Cherry stands can vary greatly with the heartwood coming in rich red to reddish brown and will darken with age. In contrast, the sapwood is creamy blonde. The wood has a straight-grain, a fine, uniform, satiny and smooth texture.
